Eastern Michigan Athletics Newest Varsity Sport

The addition of Women's Flag Football reflects the strategic growth of EMU's athletic profile. As a NCAA Emerging Sport, the sport's growth spans every level of competition. More than 20 million athletes play flag football worldwide, including 3.6 million youth participants in the United States between the ages of six and 17. The sport will make its Olympic debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Games, and is positioned to pursue championship status, with the potential for the first NCAA championship as early as spring 2028.

Head Coach Jesse Siordia knows what it takes to compete at a high level. As the state of Michigan's first collegiate varsity coach at Siena Heights, he led the program to the 2026 National Collegiate Flag Football Championship in just his second season. His impact extends well beyond the collegiate level. He has also been a driving force in the growth of flag football throughout Michigan for nearly a decade through his involvement with UA Under the Lights & Gridiron Flag Football.
